No Need to Buy Rehabilitation Equipment: Red Cross & Jockey Club Rental Service Procedures + Second-hand Donation/Transfer Social Enterprise List

Rehabilitation equipment can be expensive, but you don't actually need to spend a fortune to buy it! Hong Kong has a well-established network of rehabilitation equipment rental services, second-hand donation, and transfer social enterprises, allowing caregivers and seniors to get the support they need at low cost or even for free.

First, the Red Cross Assistive Equipment Rental Service is the leading organisation in Hong Kong, offering wheelchairs, walking frames, shower chairs, portable ramps, and more. Short-term users simply need to call 2610 0515 to make an appointment, then bring their ID card, proof of address, and a deposit (wheelchair deposit HK200,monthlyrentalHK200,monthlyrentalHK140) to the headquarters or one of the collection centres in Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin, etc. There is also an "Equipment-to-Home Service". Eligible low-income individuals can apply for a waiver of delivery fees and partial rent (up to 3 months) through a social worker referral.

The Jockey Club "a Home" Gerontechnology Education and Rental Service focuses on renting gerontechnology equipment to Community Voucher Scheme holders, covering shower chairs, toilet handrails, specialised wheelchairs, and more. It provides one-stop services including free consultation, delivery, collection, cleaning, and disinfection. The Jockey Club Rehabilitation Seating Service Centre offers professional seating assessments – download the application form and make an appointment via email or fax.

If you have second-hand rehabilitation equipment at home, you can donate it to several social enterprises that operate rehabilitation equipment recycling and transfer services:

  • Po Leung Kuk "Rehab One Stop" : Provides second-hand donation, rental, and sales of health wear and rehabilitation supplies

  • Hong Kong Rehabilitation Advisory Association : Runs a free borrowing and transfer programme, serving the community for over a decade

  • Hong Kong Wheelchair Aid Team : Collects second-hand wheelchairs and rehabilitation equipment, repairs them, then rents or transfers them at low cost

  • YWCA "Green Care" : Second-hand elderly rehabilitation equipment recycling and resale programme, reselling, renting, or donating to needy elderly at low prices

  • Association of People with Physical Handicaps (APP) : Provides manual wheelchairs, shower chairs, electric wheelchairs, hoists, ramps, and other equipment for borrowing and transfer (Kin Ming Estate, Tiu Keng Leng – Tel: 2330 6308)

Make good use of the above rehabilitation equipment rental applications and second-hand donation & transfer services – you'll save money, support the environment, and easily meet rehabilitation needs!
